Al-Qaeda No. 2 wasn't on site during US attack, officials say

Al-Qaeda's second-in-command was the target of a U.S. airstrike near the Afghan border but he was not at the site of the attack, two senior Pakistani officials said Saturday.

I'm still not counting it a miss until Zawahiri pops his head out of whatever hole he's crawled down. I also like to think the CIA wouldn't fire 10 missiles into a village on a "tip". There had to be somebody of some importance in one of the houses there.

The two Pakistani officials told The Associated Press on Saturday that the CIA had acted on incorrect information, and Ayman al-Zawahri was not in the village of Damadola when it came under attack.

Is our CIA in the habit of ordering airstrikes on bad information? Personally, I think somebody on a list somwhere just got blowed up real good.

Villagers in Damadola denied hosting al-Zawahri or any other al-Qaeda or Taliban figure, saying all the dead were local people. Earlier, a Pakistani intelligence official said the remains of some bodies had "quickly been removed" from Damadola after the strike and DNA tests were being conducted, but would not say by whom. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media.

The official added that hours before the strike some unidentified guests had arrived at the home of one tribesman named Shah Zaman.

Is having unidentified guests at your house in Pakistan justification for a bombardment of Hellfire missiles? Does Pakistan really think we're going to buy the idea our intelligence agencies are stupid enough to fire missiles at a housewarming party or whatever? All the silence by our agencies doesn't help matters.

Somebody confirm what really happened please. I was celebrating Zawahiri's death last night and now...well...I guess I'll get to celebrate it again someday.
