Chinese Official Says Fewer Than 20 Protesters Shot

Oh, only less than twenty? Well, that's hardly even news worthy.

Armed with guns and shields, hundreds of riot police sealed off a southern Chinese village after fatally shooting as many as 20 demonstrators and were searching for the protest organizers.

I bet those protest organizers are just jumping up, hands waving, trying to get noticed. Shooting protestors is like trying to put out a fire with your grandmother. You're only going to make things way, way fucking worse.

During the demonstration Tuesday in Dongzhou, a village in southern Guangdong province, thousands of people gathered to protest the amount of money offered by the government as compensation for land to be used to construct a wind power plant.
Police fired into the crowd and killed a handful of people, mostly men, villagers reached by telephone said Friday. Villagers' accounts of the death toll ranged from two and 10, with many missing.

This is why we as Americans need to really open our eyes and appreciate the freedoms we have left. Just imagine living in a country where police disperse crowds by holding target practice. At least when we hold a protest we only get beaten and handcuffed with those little plastic do-dads that can moonlight as bread-bag ties. We get thrown into the back of trucks by the dozens and then tossed into a cell with criminals who are just so sick of masturbating they don't care if it's gay. But hey, at least you don't get shot.
