Antidepressants do decrease suicide risk

If a side effect of an antidepressant is suicidal tendencies, then can you really call it an antidepressant?

A recent study has shown that taking antidepressants decreases the risk of serious suicide attempts, or death by suicide in the weeks after patients start taking the medication.

Well, I would hope so. Although, suicide is a cure for depression. Hanging yourself from a wooden beam in the basement sure does end those holiday blues. I've seen in the news a few times about medicines that are supposed to battle depression that can cause suicidal tendencies and I'm left to wonder if the pharmaceutical companies actually study the medicines they create or if they kind of just put out pretty colored pills randomly and hope for the best.

Would you buy a heart medication that could cause heart attack or a diet pill that had a side effect of weight gain? Yesterday I saw an ad for a sleep aide that had a side effect of drowsiness. I trust those pharmaceutical companies about as much as I would trust a man in a ski mask with my ATM pin number.

This is why I don't take drugs, especially man made drugs. I just don't trust my fellow man enough to down two little pills to help me feel better. So if you're depressed, just take a bath with the toaster and save yourself the co-pay.

good point Mad Man!
I liked your touch on the comment about using the toaster and skip the co-pay.
funny shit. I'm with you, everytime I hear a commercial involving a drug Co. and hear the side-effects to their drugs to treat a problem, it makes more sense to die then have some oily discharge
